DHL to extend Paris automatic parcel pick-up

Schindler

DHL is adding a further 12 automatic parcel pick-up points in Paris before the end of this year, adding to the nine already being used in the French capital.

The system has proved successful in allowing mobile professionals to pick up packages at thepoint nearest to where they are working. The “automates”, conceived and installed by logisticstechnology company Consignity, are available for use 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week.

“The (automates) network complements other urban solutions already used by DHL in Paris, suchas express centres and delivery tricycles,” said Stéphane Corthier, managing director of DHLExpress in France. “This delivery method reduces the number of urban displacements and is part ofour sustainable development strategy.

One of the first companies to make use of the DHL “automates” on a regular basis when theystarted two years ago was Schindler, the lift specialist, which has just signed a new contract withDHL for the service.

“It allows us to optimise our after-sales service in very good and secure conditions. About20 of our technicians use it. They gain a lot of time which they can dedicate to maintenance of thelifts installed and breakdowns, which in turn improves customer relations,” said Michel Jumaux, head of Schindler France’s parts service.
