Azkar opens new Basque hub

New Vitoria hub

Azkar, the Iberian express and freight company, has opened a new 25,000 sqm hub in Vitoria, whichis to serve clients in Spain’s northern Basque country.



The platform, built on a 44,000 sqm plot, with 31 loading bays and storage space for 30,000pallets, will be dedicated to handling the operations of the Fagor electrical appliances companyand central heating multinational Saunier Duval. It brings the number of Azkar facilities in theBasque region to 10.

Azkar said warehouse management at the new facility will make use of intensive technology,including radio frequency, for real-time, “paper-free” operations.

The company has also opened a new 2,500 sqm distribution centre in Spain at Manzanares nearCiudad Real, bringing the number of installations it has in the country and Portugal to 81 (480,000sqm of constructed area).

Azkar has invested over EUR 175 million expanding across Iberia in the past five years andnearly EUR 40 million since the start of last year including opening new platforms near Bilbao andZaragoza to improve distribution across the Iberian peninsula and connections with the rest ofEurope.
