Amtrak, the UK express parcels company, is quadrupling its double-deck trailer fleet to 24 vehiclesto reduce operational costs on some of its busiest routes.
The 13.6-metre Lawrence David trailers, supplied by Fraikin, will operate from the end ofAugust on trunk routes between the company’s hub at Aldridge, West Midlands, and some of its 75depots nationwide.
Amtrak was sold to Netfold in January after entering administration. New managing directorAlan Jones said its new top team had been examining all aspects of Amtrak’s business.
“The new vehicles are part of our continued investment in the company as we build thebusiness and expand the customer base,” Jones said. The company currently has 130 single-decktrailers and is buying 18 double-deck trailers to add to the six it already operates.
New scanners for delivery drivers for real-time PODs and a credit card ordering system arealso due for implementation in the next few months.
