TNT was a major sponsor of yesterday’s world walk against hunger, organised by the World FoodProgramme in which hundreds of thousands of people took part over a 24-hour period in different
countries and time zones across the planet. The event, called “Walk the World”, was especially dedicated to the campaign to bring an endto child hunger. TNT, which has been an active partner of the UN’s World Food Programme since 2002,helped initiate the Walk the World event four years ago.
“Few people know that it only costs 19 US cents a day to feed a hungry child in school. Itproves that even the smallest contribution can help make a huge difference,” said Peter Bakker, TNTCEO.
Funds raised through Walk the World are for the WFP’s Global School Feeding Programme, whichlinks food and education by offering free meals to world’s most vulnerable children.
TNT has invested EUR 26.9 million in its partnership with the WFP in the past three years, providing in-kind services, knowledge transfer projects, funds raised by employees, hands-onsupport, awareness-raising initiatives and cash donations.
There are more than 850 million chronically hungry people in the world today, says the UNorganisation.
