Austrian Post has bought one of Hungary’s leading road express companies to gain a foothold in thefast-growing logistics market and become a major player in the national B2B parcel delivery sector.
The postal group has bought 100% of the shares of privately-owned Road Parcel LogisticsServices Kft and Merland Expressz Logistics Services Kft for undisclosed sums. The twocompanies will have combined revenues of about EUR 7.5 million and one million shipments in 2007,making them number two in the Hungarian B2B parcel logistics market, Austrian Post said.
Road Parcel was launched in 1997 and offers a country wide network for door-to-door parcellogistics in Hungary. It offers a standard next-day delivery, with optional express delivery by12:00 and has a network of 11 depots. Last year it signed a cooperation agreement with Germanexpress company GO!
Merland Expressz was introduced in 2002 with a focus on groupage and pallets. Austrian Postwas already present in the Hungarian mail market through feibra Hungary.
