DHL Express expands Vietnam network

DHL has unveiled four new initiatives to expand its network in Vietnam as part of its US$14 millioninvestment program announced in November last year. It has also named the head of the new

DHL-Vietnam Post express joint venture.

Under the infrastructure initiatives, almost US$6.5 million will be invested to build twoservice centres; one in Dong Nai, covering the Dong Nai and Binh Duong areas; and another in HaNoi. There will also be two new courier depots in Da Nang and Hai Phong, and the vehicle fleet ofDHL – VNPT Express Vietnam will be expanded. DHL already has 23 locations across the country.

“These investments span the three major regions of Vietnam, the north, the south and thecentre. This underlines our commitment to continuous improvement of our products and services toserve our Vietnamese customers even better,” said Scott Price, CEO, DHL Express – Asia Pacific.

“With our market-leading position, and this expansion of our infrastructure in Vietnam, wecan better serve our customers’ requirements, with later cutoff times, same day uplift, fastertransit, faster pickup and delivery. Ultimately we are able to better facilitate trade forcustomers in Vietnam with the rest of Asia and the world.”

Mr. Price was speaking at the official inauguration of the DHL-VNPT Express joint venture inHo Chi Minh City, which was attended by Dr. Hoang Tho Thai, Member of the Board, Vietnam Posts andTelecommunications Group, as well as other DHL senior executives.

At the same event, DHL-VNPT Express Ltd. also announced the appointment of Tim
Baxter as General Director of the DHL-VNPT Express Joint Venture. Baxter, who was previouslyDeputy Country Manager in New Zealand and Chief Financial Officer for Country Operations inSingapore, will be primarily responsible for the growth and development of DHL Express in Vietnam.

 “Vietnam is one of DHL’s fastest growing countries, recording growth of over 20% everyyear, and commanding a market share of over 40%,” Baxter said. “With these new investments underour joint venture, we are able to consistently provide faster transit for our customers in Vietnamand offer expanded connectivity to DHL’s global network of over 220 countries and territories.”
