DHL Express claims up to 40% of France-Asia traffic

DHL Express said its daily import volume from Asia grew over 16% last year, compared to 2005, whileexport volume per day was up 3.7%.



The company now had a France-Asia express market share of 30-40% depending on the countriesserved, said Stéphane Corthier, director-general of DHL Express France. DHL is present in 41countries in Asia.

“Our coverage is the broadest in the market and clients place confidence in us to deliver intwo days after leaving France,” Corthier said.

Asia now represents 11% of DHL Express France’s turnover, the company said in a statement,with more than 3,000 shipments exported per day at a combined weight of 9.5 tonnes.

Its annual export volume from France to Asia was nearly 800,000 shipments over the year,while imported shipments from Asia to France totalled almost 180,000.

China, Hong Kong, India, Japan and South Korea were the top five Asian destinations DHLExpress France served during 2006, with particular growth in the first three.

Top clients were luxury goods distributors, banks and finance houses, automobilemanufacturers and the textile, hi-tech, oil and pharmaceutical industries.
