TNT Romania has targeted a growth in turnover for this year of at least 30% to EUR 33 million, itscountry manager Bogdan Enache is quoted as telling the country’s media.
The carrier is expecting the international express business to grow rapidly as multinationalcompanies flock to the region following Romania’s accession to the European Union at the start ofthe year.
Express business has grown 25% annually over the past few years, says the Romanian NewsDigest, and is forecast as recording between 30% and 60% growth a year as Romania settles into EUmembership.
TNT entered Romania in 2000 by buying domestic carrier Romcargo. Its main competitors areDHL, with which it shares 80% of the market, and local companies Fan Courier, Cargus, Alo Curier,Concorde and Pegasus.
TNT owns the biggest express plane operating in Romania, a Boeing 737-300F, which has acapacity of 16.5 tonnes and can carry nine large containers per day. DHL is planning to upgrade itsaircraft serving the south-east European country as competition hots up, news agency Rompres hasreported.
Small, local delivery companies have been investing in IT, improving services and extendingtheir vehicle fleets in anticipation of growing volumes, Rompres says.
