DHL Express is to build a HUF (Hungarian forints) 4.5 billion (EUR 17.8 million) logistics centrein Budapest.
The centre, destined for a three-acre plot in the southern Ferencvaros district of the city,near to the airport, is to create several hundred jobs and should be finished by July this year,according to DHL Express’ Hungary chief executive Martin Struder, quoted by Hungarian journalistsat a ceremony for the laying of the first foundation stone. It will have 7,000 sqm of warehousespace and 5,600 sqm of offices.
The carrier’s Hungarian revenues rose by 25% to HUF 9.3 billion (EUR 36.8 million) in 2006,from HUF 7.5 billion (EUR 29.7 million) the year before. Its customers exceeded 15,000 at the endof 2006, while staff grew by 10% during the year to 1,500, Struder is reported as saying.
Meanwhile, DHL Express and its Czech subsidiary PPL are to build 10 new logistics terminalsin the Czech Republic over the next three years, at a cost of CZK (Czech koruny) 1 billion (EUR35.1 million).
DHL bought PPL, a domestic express mail and parcels carrier, in 2005. PPL transported 11.6million parcels last year, 36% more than the year before, according to Czech media, and expects toincrease that to 14.5 million in 2007.
