DHL Express is moving to a single European dispatch system to speed up delivery and improvecustomer service through a new, real-time, advanced planning and scheduling software which will go
live later this year.Dutch supply chain technology specialists Quintiq are currently installing the solution firstat DHL Express UK, where it should be operating by the third quarter.
The new application suite will replace DHL’s current complex network of dispatch systems,which has to organise the pick-up and delivery of 1.8 billion shipments a year. It will reduce theworkload of dispatchers and improve their productivity, as well as tour efficiency, the companiessaid in a statement.
“By implementing Quintiq we expect a significant reduction of our pick-up and delivery costbase,” commented Geert-Jan Dirven, European director of operations, process and standards for DHLWorldwide Network.
The number of missed pick-ups should fall significantly through automated booking and ITcosts will be lower by standardizing on one database, according to Quintiq.
“By making optimal use of each employee’s skills, availability, productivity and constraints,no additional resources need to be scheduled as a contingency for planning errors, thus enablingorganisations to save time, reduce labour costs and increase customer satisfaction levels,” thetechnology company explained.
