Europe Airpost pilots call off strike

Europe Airpost back in the air

Pilots at French La Poste subsidiary Europe Airpost yesterday called off a strike over its sale, following the appointment of a mediator to improve their dialogue with management.

Members of the pilots’ union, SNPL, called off the strike, which began on Tuesday and meantthe cancellation of night mail operations, at 02.00 on Thursday.

La Poste said last week it was selling Europe Airpost, ex-Aéropostale, to concentrate onsending express mail and freight by high-speed train, through a new subsidiary to be formed withstate rail operator SNCF.

The French postal operator is currently negotiating to sell the air express carrier toImperial, parent holding company of Safair, which already operates two freighters for EuropeAirpost on a leasing arrangement.

SNPL says the sale is “economic and strategic nonsense” given Europe Airpost made a profit ofEUR 15 million last year on revenues of EUR 240 million.
