Dubai-based express carrier Aramex today announced it was setting up a logistics “centre ofexcellence” at the German-Jordanian University in Amman, Jordan, to encourage development of the
industry in the Middle East and North Africa region.The centre is to play a key role in shaping the GJU’s logistics and transportation-relatedprogrammes and will act as conduit for technical, academic and industrial information exchangeabout the sector, Aramex said in a statement.
“This initiative will encourage a better match between the skills and knowledge graduatesacquire and the demands of the regional and international sector,” said Iyad Kamal, Aramexvice-president for logistics and ground services.
Dr. Labib Al Khadra, the university’s dean, commented: “Establishing the centre is apioneering move that will lead to excellence. Our graduates will be better equipped to enter workand to begin to make an immediate contribution.”
Aramex staff are to work closely with GJU academics to create the guidelines and structure ofthe excellence centre, and some of the company workers are to attend its training courses.
“There are plans for the centre to extend its role and become the key logistics education andtraining organization in the Middle East-North Africa region,” said Aramex.
