TNT Express has launched new services and is planning to expand its network in Thailand to take onmarket leader DHL Express. Thailand is seen as a key market and regional gateway in South-East
Asia.The Dutch-owned operator has launched a guaranteed 9am express delivery service which itclaims to be the first of its kind in the country, The Nation newspaper reported. The servicecovers 18 provinces that generate about half of the company’s revenues, and is due to be expandedto 12 more provinces by the end of July.
Country general manager David Record was quoted as saying that key customers that haddemanded such a service included those shipping critical spare parts, launching new products orshipping vital medical supplies.
TNT Express, which aims to increase revenues by 10% – 20% in Thailand this year, also plansto increase its network of 25 depots with three more locations during the course of the year.
Meanwhile, market leader DHL Express aims to defend its estimated 50% share of the Thaiinternational express market by upgrading services, including an enhanced IT system, the BangkokPost reported. The company again expected double-digit revenue growth this year, HerbertVongpusanachai, Thailand and Indochina regional manager, was quoted as saying.
Other major express operators in Thailand are FedEx and UPS along with Thailand Post. UPSThailand announced in early 2006 that it had increased export volumes by more than 40% in thefourth quarter of 2005.
