DHL has refurbished its 2,300 sqm hub at Dubai International Airport, increasing capacity to 40,000shipments and 150 tonnes a day.
The refurbishment project is the latest of several renovation and expansion moves planned byDHL in the region to accommodate domestic and international express and logistics growth.
Earlier this month, DHL’s parent group, Deutsche Post World Net, struck a deal with theTatweer group to serve the huge Dubai Industrial City logistics facility, transPARK, with its fullrange of freight, warehousing and express services.
“The refurbishment of the Dubai hub is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance service andmeet customer demand by increasing the size, speed and reliability of our network,” said BachiSpiga, area operations director for DHL Middle East.
“Recognising the potential of the UAE express and logistics market early on, DHL has beenpursuing a sustained growth strategy focusing on building capacity and continuous renovations.Through significant investments in infrastructure and technology, we have reinforced our leadershipposition to ensure we exceed our customers expectations,” Spiga added.
Considered one of the busiest DHL centres across the Middle East, the Dubai hub has 70dedicated employees, with the total number of employees in the UAE now standing at over 500,representing 25% of DHL’s Middle East staff. It has 21 offices and service points in the UAE.
The hub refurbishment, which cost EUR 735,000, will also provide a noticeable time-to-marketcompetitive advantage, especially for customers in fast-moving consumer goods, said DHL.
The upgrade included the installation of a high-specification conveyor belt system and 400sqm of castor decking for moving airline containers. New operation offices and a 64-camera CCTVsystem were also part of the expansion.
