UPS may ditch A380 order

Speculation is increasing that United Parcel Service could cancel its $2.5 billion order for tenA380 freighters. UPS is the last remaining customer for the cargo plane following the recent order

cancellations by FedEx and aircraft leasing firm ILFC.

French newspaper Les Echos reported today, without giving any sources, that UPS was expectedto officially cancel the order next week. Airbus said it had no information about such adecision. 

UPS announced in October 2006 that it was reviewing its purchase of ten “mega-freighters”,each with capacity for up to 150 tonnes, following major delays to the Airbus A380 productionschedule. The first UPS A380F is due to be delivered in May 2010.

FedEx announced in November 2006 that it was cancelled its $2.3 billion order for ten A380freighters due to the production delays, and would instead order 15 B777 freighters for its futurefleet growth.
