TNT Post wins large BT contract

TNT Post announced today that it had won the UK’s largest postal contract since deregulation of thebulk mail market three years ago – a EUR 134 million (GBP 90 million) deal to handle over 170

million British Telecom mail items a year.

The three-year contract, won through a BT competitive tender, will see TNT Post UK managepredominately transactional mail, bills and statements for BT, with the state-owned postaloperator, Royal Mail, conducting final mile delivery.

“Thanks to BT, this award of the biggest contract to date in the deregulated postal market toTNT Post is affirmation as our position as the main challenger to Royal Mail,” said Nick Wells, CEOof TNT Post UK. “We have the right product, at the right price, with the right team.”

BT will use TNT Post’s Premier service, a two-day time-definite service for pre-sorted mailusing flexible pick-up times and enhanced tracking systems, with Royal Mail continuing to carry outthe final sort and delivery to the homes of 25 million BT customers nationwide.

TNT Post has to date secured a number of significant clients in the telecommunicationsmarket, including T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile.

TNT Post, formerly TNT Mail, was established in early 2003 and signed its downstream accessagreement with Royal Mail in April 2004. Since full liberalisation of the UK postal market on 1January 2006, the company has been a leading player in the market, handling over 60 million lettersa month.

It bought the JD Williams’ courier network last year to provide a delivery service for bothletters and heavier, weighted, non-time-sensitive items.
