Post Danmark has announced that it has bought 51% of freight forwarder Transportgruppen, which theDanish postal service said would give it access to a much larger network for the distribution of
goods.Transportgruppen, through its carriers, has access to 18 regional cargo terminals and 900rolling units. Last year, the company generated a turnover of DKK 288 million (EUR 37.5m).
“By this agreement, Post Danmark will become the most complete carrier in the Danish market,”said Carsten Dalbo, deputy executive at Post Danmark.
“A cooperative venture with the carriers of Transportgruppen will enable us to offer ourcustomers a total concept covering courier shipments, parcels and mixed cargo of all sizes and of ahigh quality. In addition, it will make it possible for us to offer a range of new products,” Dalboadded.
Transportgruppen’s management is to remained unchanged, with Peter Odorico continuing as CEO.Odorico commented: “Post Danmark will be our professional cooperation partner who can contribute todeveloping our business and add new volume. A cooperative venture will benefit both parties andstrengthen our overall position in the parcels and goods market.”
Like Post Danmark, Transportgruppen has cargo centres at Brondby and Taulov in addition to80,000 sqm of warehouse facilities in Copenhagen and Arhus.
This is the latest logistics expansion by a Nordic postal operator. Both Norway Post andFinland Post are currently expanding their logistics businesses through acquisitions.
