Deutsche Post has disclosed more details about the major restructuring of its underperformingGerman domestic parcels business. The unit, which has come under strong competitive pressure, was
officially transferred from DHL Express Germany to the Deutsche Post Mail division at the start of2007.Deutsche Post announced in December that the parcel business, run under the DHL brand andwith revenues of some EUR 2.6 billion, would be moved to the Mail division to seek synergies,benefit from a common customer base and improve operational processes and service quality.
In its latest newsletter, DHL Express Germany said the “Parcels Germany” unit would bemanaged by Uwe Brinks, who will report to the head of the Mail division, Hans-Dieter Petram. Salesmanager would be Katja Herbst and production would be under the responsibility of Joachim Wessels.
“We have a clear target: to extend our quality leadership,” Brinks declared. “The merger ofmail and parcels will not only improve our internal processes, but we will also make significantprogress in customer focus.”
On the sales side, joint offers could be made for mail and parcel delivery, while collectionand delivery processes with customers could be better coordinated, DHL said. There would be nochange to the branding, with DHL remaining as the brand for parcels and Deutsche Post as the mailbrand.
The closer integration of DHL Express Germany, now providing express and document deliveryservices, into the European organisation would help to improve integration of cross-bordertransport and would strengthen the unit’s competitive position.
