Austrian Post expands into Croatia

Austrian Post has completed the full acquisition of Croatian direct mailing company Weber Escal aspart of its European mail and parcels expansion strategy.



Weber Escal, founded in 1994, specialises in deliveries of unaddressed mail throughoutCroatia. With some 250 staff, it delivers some 90 million pieces per year. It claims a 40% share ofthe Croatian direct marketing sector, well ahead of Croatia Post, and had revenues of EUR 2 millionin 2005. 

Austrian Post said that the acquisition made it into a leading player in the Croatian postalmarket and able to offer a wider range of business services in the country. The Austrian postalgroup has been present in Croatia since 2003 through its parcels subsidiary Overseas Trade, whichit described as the second-largest parcels company after Croatia Post.

After Hungary and Slovakia, Croatia is the third Central and Eastern European market whereAustrian Post is present in the direct marketing sector.
