Royal Mail to offer greater discounts to businesses

Royal Mail, the UK’s national postal operator, is introducing two new products offering discountsto businesses and large volume customers whose mail can be sorted by its machines rather than by

hand.

It says it will reduce charges by between six and nine per cent to clients using its newAutomated Standard Tariff Large Letter service, where they send a minimum of 250 large-letter-sizeditems that can be machine-sorted.

Another new product, Cleanmail Advance, will offer more possibilities of discounts tobusinesses sending more than 1,000 items with correct and machine-readable addresses. The productswill be introduced on 2 April, the company said, when postage prices change.

“We have developed these new products to appeal to government, financial services andmedium-sized businesses to make communication with their customers easier, flexible andcompetitively priced,” Lorna Clarkson, Royal Mail’s commercial policy and pricing director,explained.
