DHL reports strong growth in Romania

DHL Express is growing strongly in Romania, which along with Bulgaria officially joined theEuropean Union on January 1, 2007. Romania is one of the fastest-growing express and parcel markets

in Central and Eastern Europe.

DHL Express expects its Romania revenues to have topped EUR 20 million in 2006 afterrecording 21% growth over the first nine months of last year, the Ziarul Financiar newspaperreported.

The company was benefiting from EUR 2 million worth of investment in infrastructure and itspositioning as a supplier of complete logistics solutions, Bogdan Obretin, commercial manager ofDHL Romania, was quoted as saying. The automotive and hi-tech sectors had been areas of stronggrowth.

“Growth will speed up in 2007, as part of the company’s plans to invest in its domesticdistribution network,” Obretin said.

According to a CEP-Research survey conducted during mid-2006, Romania is one of thefastest-growing express and parcel markets in Central and Eastern Europe.

The express market segment is estimated to have grown about 30% to revenues of some EUR 40million in 2005. Including deferred parcels, the market was worth an estimated EUR 100 million in2005. The overall CEP market was expected to grow to about EUR 130 million in 2006.

Key trends include rising demand for parcel shipping compared to express documents. Theexpress market leader is TNT ahead of DHL while major parcel operators include Cargus (the DPDpartner), Fan Curier, TCE and Romanian Post.
