Paris parcel delivery disrupted by ColiPoste strike

Strike at ColiPoste

ColiPoste employees in the Ile-de-France region, which includes Paris, today entered their eighthday of strike over pay, conditions and redundancies, continuing to disrupt parcel deliveries

throughout the capital.

Workers at the La Poste domestic parcels subsidiary walked out of 14 of the 64 ColiPosteoffices in the region on 29 November in an indefinite protest over pay, “poor” working conditions, “ rough management methods” and 500 redundancies they say have occurred gradually since last year.

They were joined by colleagues in Montpellier, who are still on strike, and Marseille, whowalked out for 24 hours on 30 November.

Scuffles broke out between around 100 strikers and police outside ColiPoste headquarters inParis yesterday after the demonstrators were refused a meeting with managers. Negotiations later inthe day failed to bring an end to the dispute.

A spokesperson for the postal workers’ union, Sud PTT, said: “We are not demanding the world. We simply want the strict minimum in salaries, working conditions and respect for individuals. Weurge La Poste to respond to the staff’s legitimate demands.”

Parcel volumes in Ile-de-France have doubled since 2003 from 81 million to 160 million items, said the union. Salaries, however, had remained static at EUR 1,100 net per month.

Neither ColiPoste nor La Poste have yet to publish a statement on the dispute.
