GLS Germany opens depot in Koblenz

GLS has opened a new EUR 6 million depot in Polch, close to Koblenz in western Germany, to increaseits parcel handling capacity in the region. 



The 4,300 sqm centre, which replaces two smaller local facilities, lies on a 26,000 sqm areaof land, and is fitted with modern sorting technology and 130 vehicle docking doors. GLS said it istaking on 50 additional part-time staff at the depot, where a total of 130 employees will now work.

GLS will handle an average of 25,000 parcels a day at the Polch depot, with maximum capacityfor 35,000 parcels. “Rising volumes could be coped with by expanding the building,” commented KlausConrad, GLS Germany managing director. The site could be expanded into a regional hub, includingthe start of direct connection with the Benelux states, he added.
