TNT Express has opened its largest hub in Italy following an investment of EUR 16 million. The newhandling terminal at Piacenza in northern Italy, one of the largest logistics buildings in the
country, is designed to accommodate growing volumes within its Italian network.The building lies on a 22,000 square metre site and has capacity for up to 205,000 parcels aday, or 51 million items a year. It is equipped with ultra-modern sorting technology and hi-techsecurity systems including video surveillance. Some 400 staff are based at the hub which operateson a 24-hour basis.
“The competitiveness of companies today is characterised by quality, which is also theability to reach global markets ahead of the competition,” commented Christian Drenthen, managingdirector of TNT Express Italy, at the hub opening ceremony. “A building like this, withultra-modern technology and located at a strategic crossroads of northern Italy, enables us tobypass the traffic jams on roads surrounding the major production centres, in particular Milan.”
Piacenza was selected as an ideal location for the hub due to its high concentration ofmanufacturing sites and as a natural crossroads for transport and communications in Italy, TNTExpress noted.
