DHL Aviation, DHL group’s air operations division, has doubled its freightcapacities at Santiago airport in north-west Spain with the addition of a new aircraft with more
load capacity. The main reason for this important change has been a 24% rise in operations so farthis year compared to the same period in 2005.The ATR42 aircraft will increase DHL’s freight in Galicia, since itscapacity will allow the daily transportation of 10 tons compared to the 5 tons handled until now.In addition, the aircraft’s ideal structural characteristics will allow the transport of heavierand bulkier freight.
Another very important advantage of this new aircraft is that it has acategory II ILS instrumental landing system, which permits landing in situations of adverseweather, even in near-zero visibility.
DHL has been operating from Santiago airport since 1996 and handlesover 120 tons of freight monthly with two daily flights; the arrival of freight in the morning fordistribution in Galicia and the late afternoon flight to Vitoria, the distribution Hub for Spainand Portugal and international connections.
DHL has installations all over Galicia, at least one office perprovince. Located in Vigo, A Coruña, Lugo and Ourense, DHL is the leader in the sector with themost service coverage in the area.
