Fred Beljaars is to succeed Ad Ebus, DHL’s new CEO Express Europe, as managing director of DHLExpress Benelux, taking over on 1 November.
Beljaars is presently executive vice-president of operations for DHL in the US. He has gainedwide experience within DHL and served more than 20 years in the international express industry,said the company.
Before joining DHL, he worked as vice-president of global operations at the TNT Post Groupand as managing director of TNT Express Worldwide in Australia, as well as in other positions.
Meanwhile, DHL has also announced the opening of the 400th so-called ‘Servicepoint’ in TheHague, Netherlands. Servicepoints, similar to the ‘Packstation’ in Germany but furnished with morefeatures, offer individual customers the possibility to collect and mail parcels virtuallyround-the-clock.
The Netherlands is the first country where DHL Servicepoints are active on a large scale,which the carrier hopes will serve as an example to the potential in other European countries. TheNetherlands network is so dense that 75% of Dutch households now live within 4km of a Servicepoint,says DHL.
DHL’s network has been recognised, in part at least, by the mail order industry, the biggestconsignor of B2C parcels. The leading Dutch mail order company, Wehkamp, has just appointed DHL ashis service partner, trying to fork as much as possible of the annual 5,5 million consignments forits 1,3 million customers through the Servicepoints.
