Xanto to use Night Star Express as transport partner

Matthias Hohmann

Xanto, the newly-founded private German mail network, will use night express operator Night StarExpress to transport mail between its members when it goes into operation in 2008 after full

liberalisation of the German postal market.

“Xanto – the LetNet System” was founded in August by five medium-sized German freightlogistics companies as a cooperation system designed to enable up to 100 local and regional mailcarriers to have nationwide coverage while retaining their identity and independent status. It iscurrently seeking members.

Night Star Express, owned by eight freight forwarders, specialises in so-called “in-night”delivery, collecting items in the late afternoon and delivering across Germany and to severalneighbouring countries by the start of the working day.

“For a night express operator like Night Star Express, cooperation with a private mailcompany is a highly interesting area since we can quickly reach any point in Germany through ourtransportation network”, said Matthias Hohmann, managing director of Night Star Express GmbHLogistik. “We are working with Xanto on a transport concept to ensure that the Xanto network canbecome a serious competitor in the postal market.”
