GLS has opened a new regional depot in southern Germany at an investment cost of €5.3 million aftera construction time of just four months.
The new depot in Hallerndorf, close to Bamberg in northern Bavaria, is the parcel company’s55th depot in Germany. Located on a 25,600 sqm site in the town’s industrial zone, the facilityincorporates a two-storey office building and a handling terminal with 90 docking doors andultra-modern sorting system.
GLS Germany expects to handle about 12,000 parcels a day in Hallerndorf. The facility hasavailable space to be expanded to capacity for up to 25,000 parcels a day. The depot will beresponsible for parcel collections and deliveries in the surrounding region.
“We are not only expanding parcel handling capacity,” said Klaus Conrad, managing director ofGLS Germany, “we are also bringing new jobs to this region. A total of 45 staff will work at thedepot, including 35 newly-employed handling workers. About 50 drivers will operate out of thedepot.
