DHL Express wins contracts and upgrades facilities in Europe

DHL Express has succeeded in winning important contracts in European countries over the summer andhas also opened or is planning new facilities.



The Deutsche Post subsidiary has secured a high-profile, one-year contract worth €730,000 toprovide worldwide express courier services for the European Commission in a global tender,according to an announcement made in the EU executive body’s online publication for officialtenders. No other bids were apparently received.

In the Netherlands, the automotive parts trading company Lasaulec has chosen DHL Express asits preferred supplier for overnight domestic parcel distribution under a one-year contract thatenters force in March 2007. The contract will deepen the existing cooperation between the twocompanies, under which DHL transports some annual 10,000 – 12,000 shipments for Lasaulec. HansKraaijenbrink, director North Netherlands for DHL Express, said: “The contract triples the numberof consignments compared to the previous year.”

In the Baltic region, DHL Express has opened a new logistics centre in the Latvian capital,Riga. Covering 9,000 sqm, including 6,000 sqm of handling and warehousing premises, the newfacility combines express, parcel and freight services as well as contract logistics at onelocation.

Meanwhile, in Italy, DHL Express has signed an agreement with Ancona Airport on the Adriaticcoastline to set up a new dedicated-use facility that will improve its operational performance,according to the ANSA news agency. At present, it shares warehousing space with other logisticscompanies.
