Royal Mail’s First Class service at all-time high

Royal Mail said that its quality of service to customers hit record levels for the first quarter of2006-07 (end of March to early June) and it aims to build up these quality levels in the face of

growing competition.

A figure of 94.1% of First Class letters arrived the next working day after posting,according to preliminary figures. This is well above its 93.0% national target. Second Class mailalso beat its 98.5% target, with a 99.1% performance over the same three-month period – its bestfirst quarter result on record.

“These are fantastic results and shows we are delivering the best quality of service to ourcustomers on record,” said Ian Griffiths, Managing Director, Royal Mail Letters. “I’d like to say abig thank-you to all our postmen and women for all their hard work and for continuing to do a firstclass job.”

Mail services used by larger businesses also exceeded their targets, including Mailsort bulkbusiness mail services, Presstream for magazine and catalogue mail, PPI (Postage Paid Impression)services for mail posted in pre-paid envelopes.

Royal Mail’s Special Delivery guaranteed next day service hit its target with a 99.0%performance over the first quarter of 2006-07.

“The challenge we now face is to continue improving upon the consistent, high quality servicewe are delivering to our customers as competitors are becoming established in the UK mail market –which was opened to full competition from January 2006,” Mr Griffiths said. “We are determined tomeet that challenge.”
