TNT denies plans to drop Monday mail deliveries

TNT

TNT has denied Dutch media reports that it has decided to discontinue mail deliveries onMondays.

Various Dutch newspapers reported on August 1 that the postal and express group wanted to stopdeliveries of letters on the first day of the working week due to high costs and low volumes.

In response, TNT issued a statement saying that as part of the proposal for a new Dutch PostalAct, the obligation to collect and deliver mail six days per week would be maintained. Any decisionregarding changes to mail delivery in the Netherlands would be the responsibility of the governmentand parliament, and not of TNT.

The company noted that the future of postal services was discussed at its July 31 press andanalysts conferences. This followed the recent letter from TNT, Deutsche Post and other postaloperators to European Commissioner Charlie McCreevy calling for a debate on a modern and flexibleuniversal service geared to the needs of consumers and businesses.
