TNT Post has stepped up its expansion in Germany with the acquisition of PostCon Deutschland,the country’s largest mail consolidation company, for an undisclosed sum. The deal gives the Dutch
postal group additional mail volumes and reinforces its position as the main challenger to DeutschePost.PostCon, based in Berlin, employs 300 staff at 12 regional sorting centres and sorts about 1.2million letters a day. It has about 1,000 corporate customers including half of the companies inthe German DAX stock exchange index and groups such as Tchibo, Philips, Bosch and pharmaceuticalscompany Merck.
TNT Post said that PostCon would remain in Berlin and continue to operate as a consolidationcompany after the takeover. The Dutch postal group now covers 90% of German households through itsown delivery staff or cooperation partners.
