DPD will double the capacity of its main Benelux hub with the installation of a new sortingsystem. Dutch manufacturer Vanderlande Industries will be responsible for delivering and installing

the new sorting system extension at the DPD Benelux hub in Best in the Netherlands.

The new automated sorting system addition POSI2SORTERâ„¢ is to be put in operation at thebeginning of 2007 and is supposed to quicken the deliveries for DPD’s Dutch customers into thewhole of Europe. DPD said it has successfully cooperated with Vanderlande in several countriesduring the last few years.

The system in use today, manufactured by Vanderlande as well, has a capacity of 5,600 parcelsper hour. The extension is due to increase the capacity to 10,000 parcels.

The incoming parcels are pre-sorted by six so-called vertisorters leading the items to twofollowing automated sorting machines which sort up to the final destination. This system is now tobe extended by a so-called POSI2SORTER with a much larger database and handling capacity,

Thomas Preuss, Managing Director of GeoPost/DPD Netherlands, said: “With the new system we areready for the increase in shipment volumes we have to expect for the next few years. We havedecided on the extension from Vanderlande because of the good experience we had with today’ssorting machinery. The good after-sales service was taken into account, as well.”
