GLS Belgium increased volumes by 20% in the fiscal year just ended and is planning moreinvestment in IT and physical infrastructure to increase its capacity for the future.
The Belgian subsidiary of the Royal Mail European parcels business said it has invested some€200,000 in new video surveillance systems for all its depots. The investment is already payingoff, according to Eberhard Fritze, European area manager Germany West & Belgium. “We have lessthan one damaged item for every 10,000 parcels,” he said.
Following a major investment in a new sorting system at the main hub in Vilvoorde last autumn, afurther €300,000 has been spent on upgraded sorting systems at the two depots in Gent andHerentals.
From July onwards, GLS Belgium will gain additional capacity by processing parcels to and fromthe southern Belgian province of Luxemburg across the border in the duchy of Luxemburg.
