TNT Express Italy has speeded up services to and from Sardinia with new multimodal connectionsto the Italian mainland. The aim is to benefit from rising transport volumes to and from the
Mediterranean island.Less urgent road-based shipments are now being transported on seven daily truck departuresbetween Italian mainland locations and the island using “motorways of the sea” maritime services.In particular, TNT has started a direct road service from its Italian road hub in Bologna viaPiombino to Olbia which has speeded up deliveries by about 10-12 hours. Further upgrades are beingplanned for the months to come.
TNT, with five branches and 20 “TNT Points” retail outlets on Sardinia, was already the firstexpress operator to provide air express services to the island for domestic and internationalshipments. Express goods are distributed within 24 hours to major locations and within 48 hours toall others.
TNT Express Italy said that the upgrading reflected the 60% rise in international shipments forSardinia this year compared to 2005. The company has also taken on more commercial staff on theisland.
