DHL Express has opened a €6 million facility at Vigo in north-west Spain to integrate itsdomestic and international air, ocean and ground transport services for the region.
The new facility at the city’s Technology and Logistics Park covers a surface area of 16,710 sq.metres, including 4,096 metres set aside for industrial facilities and office space. To serve DHL’s54-vehicle fleet, the new facility is equipped with 13 loading docks for long-haul vehicles and 34for delivery vehicles. The automatic conveyor system has a sorting capacity of 2,700 parcels perhour, cutting down on transit times and optimising operations. The centre replaces separatefacilities for ground operations and air freight.
At an opening ceremony, Felipe Corcuera, DHL Express Iberia managing director, highlighted theimportance and economic weight of the province of Pontevedra in the Autonomous Community ofGalicia, underscoring the region’s rapid economic growth. With this new facility DHL will be betterable to provide its customers the highest quality of service possible, one of the company’spriorities in all of its operations.
DHL Vigo, with a staff of 72 professionals, processes an average of 3,000 dispatches daily,moving over 7,500 packages and a total of nearly 170,000 kilograms of freight a day.
The Vigo facility reinforces DHL’s ongoing commitment to its customers in Galicia. This newfacility joins the offices already in operation in the four provinces of Galicia, located in ACoruña, Santiago, Lugo and Ourense, making DHL the company offering the most extensive service inthe region.
