German express operator GO! General Overnight Service said it has achieved fast growth rates overthe first five months of 2006 and is pressing ahead with plans for a new hub.
The privately-owned firm, with up to 11,000 overnight shipments daily, increased volumes ofovernight express volumes by over 20% in April and by 25% in May. “Good results were also achievedin all other areas of business,” stated managing director Ralf-Hans Dierks. “These results provethat our forecast and the strategy announced at the start of the year are having an effect.”
In 2005, GO! transported over 2 million items and increased turnover by 20% to €200 million.It is targeting double-digit growth for both revenues and volumes this year.
GO! confirmed plans for a new central hub covering 15,000 sqm and with initial capacity tohandle up to 20,000 parcels per night. The hub is likely to be built in the Neuenstein area incentral Germany, and should go into service in autumn 2007.
The company, owned by 15 medium-sized courier firms, concentrates on time-sensitive transportof domestic and international documents, parcels and freight shipments. It has more than 700 staffand 3,000 couriers in more than 70 stations across Germany. The company also plans to develop itsinternational business by opening its own stations in neighbouring countries and expanding itsinternational cooperation network.
