DHL Express has cut transit times from southern India to the USA to just two days thanks to anexclusive link-up with Malaysian cargo airline Transmile.
The airline will operate flights under contract to DHL from Chennai and Bangalore to the expressoperator’s Asia hub in Hong Kong. Transmile, which is expanding its Asia Pacific network strongly,is already flying from Hong Kong to the US east and west coast on behalf of DHL under fifth-freedomtraffic rights. The new routings will cut one day off the previous transit times.
“With an exclusive tie-up with Transmile for quicker delivery to our hub in Hong Kong, DHL cancut down on delivery time to the US, especially for south India,” commented DHL Express Indiacountry manager Chris Callen. Southern India was a key market for the express operator in view ofthe region’s IT, textile and automobile industries.
DHL handles over 1,200 tonnes of export consignments from India to the USA per year, with anoverwhelming 75% heading for East Coast destinations.
As well as flying for DHL, Transmile clients on its scheduled services include UPS, PosMalaysia, other express companies and a range of freight forwarders. The airline’s strategy is toprovide services for express companies as a niche cargo airline.
