TNT Express grows 30% in Russia

TNT Express increased its business in Russia by 30% last year, including a 50% rise in thenumber of domestic consignments. Growth was driven by network expansion, new products and services

as well as general express market growth.

Announcing its results for 2005, TNT Express Russia said its domestic business grew by 50% andinternational by 20%. At the end of the year domestic consignments constituted 43% of allshipments, and international consignments amounted to 57%.  Demand for Economy Express(express delivery by truck or combined transport) increased by 12% while the Special Servicessector, providing individual solutions for business, grew by 25%. The company’s customer databaseexpanded by 30%. No absolute figures for revenues or volumes were disclosed apart from the figureof about 71,000 orders per month for deliveries to and from Russia.

Among the company’s major developments in 2005 were the opening of offices in Nizhniy Novgorod,Novosibirsk, Samara and Irkutsk. The Yekaterinburg office was added to the Customs BrokersRegister, simplifying and speeding up export and import shipments.

TNT Express also introduced new technology for Russian customers, including a Russian-languageversion of the MyTNT application and online courier bookings. These innovations helped to halve thetime for documentation preparation. Nearly 50% of all consignments are now dispatched usingCustomer Interface Technology solutions, the company said. 

Harro van Graafeiland, ?ountry General Manager, TNT Express Russia, said: “2005 was a successfulyear for our company. We consider the Russian market very promising and important for our business.Today we can positively assert that TNT Express is becoming one of the most ‘Russian’ among theglobal operators.”

TNT Express, which has been in Russia since 1989, has six hubs: in Moscow, St. Petersburg,Yekaterinburg, Samara, Nizhniy Novgorod, and Novosibirsk. The company employs 500 people, has aroad fleet of 114 vehicles and a regional network covering 5,500 Russian cities and towns.
