Management shake-up at German private mail firm

One of the leading private mail competitors to Deutsche Post has announced a top managementchange. PIN AG, part of the new postal group backed by leading German newspaper groups, has named

Axel Stirl as its new managing director following the resignations of the company’s twofounders.

Bernhard Klapproth and Martina Roitzsch, who founded PIN AG in 1999, have resigned their boardpositions and are leaving the company.  No reason was given for their departure. Stirl hasheaded the company’s business development and key account management departments since September2005. He was previously with Deutsche Post where he was responsible for expanding the retailnetwork.

PIN AG, with branches in Berlin, Leipzig, Cologne and Frankfurt, currently delivers more than600,000 letters daily and generated turnover of €50 million in 2005. It is the largest companywithin the PIN Group, in which the Axel Springer (“Bildzeitung”), Holtzbrinck (“Handelsblatt”) andWAZ publishing groups hold 25% shares. PIN Group CEO is Günther Thiel, the former Thiel Logistikfounder and CEO, who also owns 25% in the group.

The PIN Group, which also owns regional mail firms in Hamburg and eastern Germany, recentlyexpanded in North Rhine Westphalia with the acquisitions of NET-DBS in Düsseldorf and the regionalmail firm Annen-Post. The group is targeting turnover of €150 million this year and more than 400million postal items.
