DHL said it has selected the Dynamic Area Planner solution of IT transportation system providerMobitrac Inc. to power its new Route Optimization Program. This initiative, announced by DHL on
March 7, 2006, will help DHL facilities map out optimum delivery routes, streamline sortingprocesses, and balance daily loads more efficiently. When complete, the program will provide DHLcompany operations nationwide with even greater operational efficiencies, and DHL customers with anenhanced customer service experience. The installation of the Mobitrac technology, whichbegan in January 2006, will be fully operational by September 2006.Mobitrac’s web-based platform enables DHL managers to assess and develop optimized routesthat ensure consistent composition of courier delivery areas. The dynamic, on-demand solution alsoprovides DHL managers with the information they need to evaluate each facility’s day-to-dayschedule performance, optimize yield management, reduce planning time, and ensure routes areconstructed to flex with customer demand.
These powerful new capabilities enable DHL to create and dynamically adjust work areas in itsexpress delivery business, resulting in reduced operating costs through balancing and optimizingwork areas, while continuing to maintain superior levels of customer service. Mobitrac’s DynamicArea Planner – the first in the industry – is designed to help transportation companies reduce“area planning” optimization time from weeks, or even months, to as little as a day.
“Mobitrac’s straightforward data integration and broad set of tools has allowed us to producerapidly actionable information,” said Fred Beljaars, executive vice president for operations at DHLAmericas. “We are committed to delivering the highest levels of customer service in thetransportation industry, and through partnerships with technology providers like Mobitrac, who aredeveloping innovative transportation solutions, we continue to do so.”
“Mobitrac’s Transportation Execution Platform is quickly establishing itself as the newstandard for managing fleets and fleet performance,” said Mike Liddell, Mobitrac co-founder andCEO. “DHL’s selection of our groundbreaking TES solution provides compelling validation by one ofthe most respected names in worldwide shipping.”
Mobitrac’s Transportation Execution Platform is comprised of a suite of modular services thatcan be integrated simply and easily in a fleet’s current IT infrastructure. Each module can workalone or together to ensure the precise level of functionality required to meet a shipper orcarrier’s unique needs.
The route optimization initiative is one of many projects DHL has undertaken to bring“customer service back in shipping.” Earlier this month, DHL announced a new radio frequencyidentification (RFID) pilot project to demonstrate how the use of RFID-tagged packages can improvetracking and security for customers as part of the “DHL Innovation Initiative,” which aims atdeveloping innovative logistics solutions to increase the efficiency of supply chains.
