DHL ups Asia-Pacific express rates by 4%

DHL announced today that its rates for DHL Express in Asia Pacific will increase by an averageof 4% effective from 1 May 2006.

The increase, which will apply to all express shipments billed in Asia Pacific, is necessitatedby the rising cost of operations, including greater compliance with strict aviation securityregimes, as well as investments in technology and systems to achieve greater quality andconsistency of services throughout the network, DHL said in a statement.

DHL had absorbed the increase in operational costs with higher service levels. The new pricingoffsets a small percentage of the overall costs increase, and will help to strengthen and enhanceDHL’s services and extensive network in the region to ensure that customers continue to receivesuperior value-added services.

As part of its continuous efforts to provide customers with better products and services, andexpanded network infrastructure, DHL has invested over US$1.6 billion in Asia Pacific between 2000and 2006. These investments include the recently announced US$110 million expansion of the DHLCentral Asia Hub in Hong Kong. With its advanced automation and security features, customers’shipments will be sorted and consolidated faster and more efficiently.

DHL has also extensively enhanced its air services to bring new dimensions of capacity andconnectivity for customers, offering seamless connections within the world’s fastest-growing regionand to other parts of the world. These allow DHL to provide the highest level of product andservice quality to customers, such as the latest cut-off time and the earliest delivery time.
