GLS is launching a new guaranteed next-day delivery option for business customers in Germany tobroaden its product and service portfolio. The new service fills a gap between its express product
and its non-time guaranteed standard parcel product. From the start of April, customers will be able to select the “Guaranteed 24-Service” optionto ensure that their parcels are delivered on the next working day by 17:00 at the latest. The “Guaranteed 24-Service” parcels will have special labels enabling them to be sorted and scannedseparately in the GLS depots and given priority treatment within the delivery network. Theadditional cost of the service option has not been announced.
“Up to now, the delivery of shipments by a defined time was primarily guaranteed in theexpress segment,” explained Klaus Conrad, managing director of GLS Germany. “With our newGuaranteed 24-Service we are now offering our business customers an absolutely reliablealternative.” Should a parcel not be delivered within the guaranteed time, the customer will berefunded the service surcharge.
The basic GLS product, the “Business Parcel”, offers a “normal” transit time of under 24hours for deliveries within Germany but does not have any time-based delivery feature. Its premiumdomestic product, the “Express Parcel”, offers next-day delivery by 12:00, with service options fordelivery by 08:00, 09:00 or 10:00. Its European product for German customers, the “Euro BusinessParcel”, features regular transit times of 24-48 hours for neighbouring countries, and 72-96 hoursfor more distant European states but does not offer any time guarantees.
In other EU countries, GLS offers comparable domestic and European parcel products withsimilar, non-guaranteed transit times. It does not offer any cross-border European express product.
