Sagawa Express, one of Japan’s leading parcel carriers, has restructured into a holding companyto speed up decision-making and international expansion. Sagawa Express president Eiichi Kuriwada
will also head SG Holdings.The new parent company, SG Holdings, will become the 100% owner of Sagawa Express and of varioussubsidiaries and affiliate companies, including the new international division Sagawa GlobalExpress. The group said in a statement that the creation of a holding company would speed upstrategic decision-making, strengthen its overseas business, increase shareholder value and meetcustomer and market needs.
Like rival Yamato Transport, Sagawa Express aims to build up its international business in theAsia-Pacific region and diversify its product portfolio. Last month the second-largestprivately-owned Japanese parcels carrier dissolved a partnership with air freight forwarderKintetsu World Express, citing a lack of synergies. It had already set up a new internationalfreight forwarding subsidiary under the name Sagawa Global Express in summer 2005.
