FedEx is in talks with private Chinese carrier Okay Airlines about cooperation in domesticfreight and express services, the Shanghai Daily newspaper has reported.
Okay Airlines chairman and president Liu Jieyin was cited as saying that talks with FedEx hadjust started. But he added: “We hope to start domestic air freight and express services through apartnership with FedEx,” Liu said. FedEx declined to comment on the talks.
FedEx is investing heavily in China with the $400 million acquisition of DTW Express, its formerjoint venture partner. While this gives the US group a ground network, FedEx does not have airtraffic rights to operate domestic air express flights within China. The company thus needs tocooperate with local cargo carriers to build up such an air network.
