DHL Express has begun construction of its new €10.5 million facility at Loiu (Bilbao) airport innorthern Spain. The terminal, integrating all of the company’s activities in the Bizkaia province,
is due for completion in the last quarter of 2006.The 18,000 sqm site will include approximately 5,700 sqm of industrial space and 1,000 sqm ofoffice space. The facility will have 63 loading bays for pickup and delivery vehicles and 38 baysfor line-haul vehicles. In addition, the fully automated facility will have an automatic conveyorsystem with a sorting capacity of 4,500 parcels per hour.
DHL Express Bizkaia is currently located at the Leguizamon industrial park in Etxebarri, on a5,000 sqm site. This facility employs 150 professionals and has a fleet of 110 vehicles. In 2005DHL Express Bizkaia processed and forwarded 1.25 million shipments, estimated at a total of 53,000tonnes of freight.
DHL also has a regional customer service and telesales centre in Leioa where some 150 employeesprovide telephone support and telesales for a broad area stretching from Galicia to Aragon.
