Royal Mail said its first-class mail service remains at target-beating levels, with 94 per centof First Class stamped letters arriving the day after posting between October and December last
year. This is well ahead of the 93 per cent national target.Second Class mail also beat its 98.5 per cent target with a 98.9 per cent performance over thesame three-month period. Both First and Second Class mail have been performing at or above targetlevel for more than a year, the UK post office pointed out.
A total of 10 out of 13 products performed at or above target level from October to December2005. These include Mailsort bulk business mail services, Presstream for magazine and cataloguemail, PPI (Postage Paid Impression) services for mail posted in pre-paid envelopes and StandardParcels.
The quality of service research is based on the measurement each month of 105,000 sampleletters, parcels and packets sent to 6,000 addresses. Measurements are carried out by anindependent firm, Research International.
