Swiss Post announced today that it will merge its express and parcels businesses into a newlogistics subsidiary to streamline its organisation and improve competitiveness. The post office
will also split off its regional passenger transport unit into a separate company.Swiss Post, which cooperates with TNT in international express and with GLS for internationalparcels, said its executive board had decided to merge all logistics-based activities, includingparcels, express and courier services as well as freight transport, into the PostLogistics AG witheffect from January 1, 2007. With annual revenues of some Sfr 1.2 billion (€770 million) and some5,500 staff, PostLogistics AG would become the largest logistics company in Switzerland. The stafftransfer to the subsidiary needs to be confirmed by the Swiss legal ministry, however.
The creation of PostLogistics AG as a subsidiary company follows the re-branding of the postoffice’s express, parcels and logistics companies under the PostLogistics name last year. SwissPost said the integration of these different companies into one organisation would enable it tooffer customers services from one supplier with a single point of contact and a single invoice.PostLogistics would ensure that Swiss Post’s parcels, express and freight logistics units remainedcompetitive in the long-term.
