GLS Belgium said its first 20 parcel shops have been well received by customers during thelaunch phase. The GLS subsidiary has opened 20 of the 150 shop-in-shop parcel outlets that it plans
in Belgium by end-2007.These initial parcel drop-off and collection points are located within retail shops, petrolstations and GLS depots in the Brussels, Gent and Antwerp regions. The European parcelscarrier plans to open its first southern Belgian outlets later this year.
“The initial response to the parcel shops concept has been positive,” said GLS Belgium managingdirector Eberhard Fritze. “In particular, small business and private customers are increasinglyusing the parcel shops as a competent alternative to post office counters. We are convinced thatthe reaction to the parcel shop offering will grow further.”
The expansion in Belgium is part of the wider GLS strategy of developing a pan-European networkof up to 60,000 parcel shop outlets over the next four years.
