TNT Post is stepping up its expansion in Germany with the launch of operations in Hamburg and anacquisition in Stuttgart. The Dutch-owned company aims to become the leading competitor to Deutsche
Post in the German postal market.TNT Post said it will create 400 new jobs in Hamburg this year following the launch of local andregional business mail distribution in the city at the start of January. In the first week of theNew Year alone, the company delivered 70,000 items. It has opened a sorting centre and currentlyemploys 260 staff, including 180 delivery staff. “TNT Post will need about 140 more employees bythe middle of the year,” stated TNT Post Germany managing director Roland Jager. TNT Post said itaims to deliver 60,000 letters daily in the Hamburg area by the end of the year.
TNT Post has meanwhile expanded in southern Germany with the acquisition of Stuttgart-basedmailXpress, effective from January 1. The postal firm, with 110 staff, delivers about 15,000letters daily in Stuttgart. TNT Post currently has about 1,700 employees in Germany and deliversabout 100,000 letters per day.
